Diploma Friday - 7th Of January

Today was quite exciting, our first two lessons were Dance. Unfortunately Miss.Scrubb still is unable to teach due to her injured ankle which is a shame, but on the plus side we had a friendly Substitute. The teacher explained to us what we were expecting for this term and what kind of effects, music, actions, shots, facial acting, editing, time and space were expected for an original horror film. She also included in the discussion how there are many different sub-genres within horror movies e.g Slasher, sci-fi, teen terror, serial killers, zombies and my favourite physiological.

I also learnt that you can do more than one sub-genre in a horror film e.g you can mix physiological (mind games) and Slasher (cutting, slicing, chopping, blood, knifes, killing) to create an gradually building frightening atmosphere. This is quite common in most horror films, because it makes it interest, they also have an exciting twist to it. Many people will also view these kind of double-joint films, because a lot of intelligent or curious people like scary films with an  message or moral to it. Whereas some people like horror films, where things are very unexpected and sudden shocks or when hints of danger are coming near.

After discussing, we viewed small samples of some horror films, but they were not trailors. After viewing each film separately at least twice, we then had to write down on paper what shots they used, effects, editing, lightening, location, motion, costumes, actors and ect. E.g for the film "Psycho" - I described the lightening as dim with a black and white colour tint (60's movie).

I also describes how the shots were very typical and they used shots such as: Wide Shot, Very Wide Shot, Extreme Close Up, Over The Shoulder Shot, Two-by-two shot and ext.
We repeated this process for 3 films: "Psycho", "Scream" and "The shining".h

I learnt something really important today - that 'Tracking' meant moving from one character to another, or moving from one shot to another. I filled up all the boxes and packed each one with loads of information, I even included the slight shots because you never know when this info could come in handy for future preferences.
For third period, we used our music lesson to yet again catch up on blogging. Luckily, today I finished all of my bloggin. WOOHOO! And as a bonus I even started to fix up the way my blog is presented, so this lesson was useful to me.

We had Drama fourth and fifth period,we spent these two lesson discussing upon what type of sub-genre we want to use for our horror film. We didn't actually come to a final decision, but we take some ideas to mind. Most of us were strong on a physiological type of horror films, but some of us wanted to create a slasher movie. I personally suggested that we combine the both of Slasher with Psychological, and produce something like a Saw movie. But obviously make it a CEB original. Miss.Williams awared us that we would have to be clear with what outfits we are wearing every friday, because it wouldn't make sense if in the same scene we were wearing different clothes and had our hair different as we will be shooting the same scene on different days.

Next lesson we will be deciding what locations we are going to use, what characters we are and we will learn how to use the camera's and start writing the script.

So far I love this part of the course for term 2 and I cannot wait to start rolling next Friday.

OVERALL TODAY WAS GREAT ! :]
